Greyvale Rivalry - Status Update #10

Hello everyone,
We're back with the sixth Greyvale Rivalry status update. The last two weeks were pretty chill, except for the couple of days we spent working on the wallpaper DLC of The Grey Dream. We spent a couple of days on that, but the rest of the time was really productive. With these two weeks, we've reached a total of 3,000 renders. We finished a scene and started working on a new one. You might be wondering why we jumped from the 12th to the 14th scene in the rendering process. We wanted to tackle the smaller scenes before getting into a big one again.
8.5th Scene: We realised that we're terrible at providing estimates for scenes. We estimated that it would take around 160 renders. However, this scene ended up requiring 240 renders, plus one animation, and a couple more are on the way. After finishing the scene, we noticed a problem with a certain part, which meant we had to adjust the lighting one by one, costing us a day.
14th Scene: We started working on this one on Friday. So far, it's been great. We were going to start working on it a day or two earlier, but we felt that something was missing from the scene, so we rewrote some parts of it. We've done 120 renders so far.
We've also changed 2 characters:
Valeria
Vivian

Before we wrap up the status, Kagan wanted to talk about the change he made with the renders:
We used to use denoise in our renders, but recently we've noticed that it causes color banding, loss of detail, and makes the images look pastel-like. We actually knew about this from the very beginning, but when we were working on The Grey Dream, we started doing it this way because our systems were terrible, so we just continued with it. We also started doing Greyvale in the same way, just like we always had, but after the last episode of Grey Dream, we thought it would be nice to mix things up a bit. You might have noticed that in Grey Dream, if there was a solid-colored wall in the background, strange color transitions could occur, which could be distracting. We've left a little example for you below. Just a heads-up that denoise will still be hanging around in the Greyvale renders for a little while. We've done about 2,800 images like this, and we can't really go back and fix them right now. However, color banding won't be an issue from scenes 8.5 and 14 onwards! This doesn't mean there'll be a huge difference in the renders, but you'll be able to see more detail in some areas and won't encounter the colour banding issue.

One last thing: We've almost reached 5,000 on the Steam wishlist for Greyvale Rivalry, and we thank you for that!
