Animus Non Grata is back!

13/08/2025 · Event · Animus Non Grata

Hey all,

I'm extremely sorry for the inconvenience experienced by you all when the game suddenly disappeared from Steam. I woke up one morning to an email saying the game had been retired (banned) without prior warning, and as such I failed to give you all a heads-up of what was going on. The game simply vanished from your libraries and was impossible to find on Steam, and it was completely out of my control.

These have been a rough couple of weeks, to say the least. Payment processors are deciding what kind to stories are allowed to be told, essentially choosing what "counts as real art" versus "content with no inherent artistic value". As a result of those tightened rules for adult games, Animus Non Grata was initially flagged for removal and was banned from Steam.

However, the fantastic staff over at Steam Support have reviewed the game's content and relisted the game! Clearly, the game's narrative and story-telling is strong enough to have artistic merit despite the dark subject matter.

I'm very glad for this decision and appreciate the opportunity to continue sharing this psychological horror thriller with you all here on Steam. However, the future is still unclear. Payment processors can decide at any point to make the rules even tighter, and force a ban on Animus Non Grata again. It's impossible to know what the future holds when it comes to censorship of free speech, video games and art.

What I can promise you is what I promised 2 month ago: I'll do my best to update this Steam page with the remastered Renpy-version "Special Edition" of Animus Non Grata. The original Twine edition is a well-written story, but the immersive format offered by Renpy should make the experience even better. I hope to bring the SE version to you as soon as possible.

Stay tuned for more news. And be careful out there.

Cheers,

FlimsyLegs
