I played this game in 2019. It was fun. It took me about 30 hours to finish it. It's a great Visual Novel about life – existence, music, and love. Musicus isn’t just well-planned and developed – it’s well-written from the level of its prose. The music in this work varies – from being “alright” to superb. The game has 4 endings (1 main route, 1 bad ending, 2…

Overdrive really outdid themselves this time, it's a shame this is Overdrive's final visual project. The Japanese visual novel industry has been declining for years, making visual novels of this quality hard to come by.

MUSICUS is a visual novel that takes a deep dive into the lives of musicians and explores what drives people to create music despite the great sacrifices it often takes.

About this game

About This Game

This visual novel is an emotional tale about people brought together by rock 'n roll who are questioning the meaning of their lives, struggling to find a place within society, and agonizing over what music truly means to them.

You play as Kei, a young man from a family line of doctors who is forced him to question his path in life after certain events throw him off the rails laid before him. Through rock 'n roll you'll meet interesting people who offer new takes on life and ideals regarding music. Very few approaches you can take will prove all good or all bad, and nearly all will involve sacrificing something.

Will you abandon music and choose another path? Will you try to value each moment as it comes? Will you do whatever it takes to become a financial success? Dramatic stories will unfold as the consequence of the path you choose.

  • As a Japanese indie rock artist himself, the producer of this game brings a depth of detail into the lives and culture of indie rock artists that enhances the atmosphere and setting in ways that few others can lay claim to.

  • In addition to the rockin' background tracks used for ambience during the story, this game contains a full CD's worth of original rock songs created explicitly to represent the tones and styles of the different bands that perform in-game.

  • The decisions you make throughout the game will lead you down one of five potential paths, each fully fleshed out with many hours of content delving into the consequences of each road taken.

  • Aside from the protagonist Kei, all of the characters both major and minor are fully voiced throughout the story, bringing another layer of richness and depth.
